Our favourite casual wear street snaps!

Hey fashion lovers,

It has been a gorgeous bank holiday weekend. I hope you’ve all made the most of the sun. We’ve been busy, busy here at Fashion Dragon.

Thought I’d take it easy last night. I grabbed a nice glass of wine and put together this cheeky little list of our fave Cardiff casual wear street snaps – enjoy!

Here’s Betty looking gorgeous in American Apparel, Topshop jeans, a flash of LV and gorgeous boat shoes from Hong Kong! We love her slouchy chic style.

This is Catrina looking flipping gorgeous in a Topshop skater skirt (I love this style, it’s very flattering), River Island leather number and a vintage necklace courtesy of her great grandmother. This outfit could easily be dressed up or down, but Catrina’s boots and cute socks are perfect for a casual street wear look.

This is a lovely casual look for uni. With a vintage bag and boots and Topshop jean and top staples that can be worn with anything and everything, this is a cool casual look. We love that a few sparkly extras like the pearls and red lippy have been thrown in for good measure.

We love Jade’s casual rock look. With blue nails, burgundy converse, Topshop jacket and Urban Outfitters bag, she looks effortlessly stylish.

Jodan is one of our more funky street snaps! We love her (literally) leopard printed leggings from H&M and pretty Primark socks and brogues. There are lots of different textures and patterns in this outfit, but they work beautifully together.

Lauren looks super chic in these H&M patterned trousers and statement M&S red handbag. The moral of this street snap is to never overlook M&S. It is always worth a look. I have found some brilliant clothes and shoes in there!

Stacey is rocking this Topshop hat and Zara jacket. The studded pumps are a street wear fashion must-have this season. Why not head down to Topshop and start channeling your inner Millie Mackintosh with this hat?

Here’s Peter looking cheeky and cool in Topman shoes and jeans, and H&M jumper. Nothing like a lovely well-dressed man to brighten up a girl’s day!

A Little Bit Special for Lecture

For students, the school look may be casual or it may be colorful; there are no limits as long as you don’t wear your pajamas (well, some students do that :P). However, sometimes, when attending a lecture, you can still dress up a bit to stand out.

The girl above is standing out among the crowd with her lips and pearl necklace. Not too much, not too little, just the right amount for look a little bit special for school.

Summer Formal Dressing!

So, this weekend I went for a meal at the Orsett Hall in Essex, and was reminiscing about the time I was last there, almost five years ago- my school prom! It occurred to me that it was about this time several years ago that I was concerning myself partially with exams, and partially with what I was going to wear!

Proms are everywhere in Summer, and whether it’s your leavers ball from school, your end of year formal meal at University or a work function, the pressure to look good can be enormous. This blog post by Laura at Boudi however gives some great hints and tips- you can check it out here.

The high street offers some great choices, but I thought I’d have a look at the prom dress shops available in Cardiff, and pick a favourite dress from each. Here’s my run down of the top 3 places to go in the capital:

1) Pussy Galore Cardiff – there’s a huge selection and a great sale on at the moment.

This is on sale at Pussy Galore right now! This dress would look stunning with a tan- just make sure if you use the fake stuff that you test it before the big day, or get a friend to help.

2) City Prom  – loads of stockists so you can really find the right designer for you.

My personal favourite was the Mori Lee collection by Madeline Gardner. This is so summery and gorgeous.

3) Luxor – classy gowns with a good array of sizes.

This black and white effect is simply stunning.

A few final tips:

• looking online is great way to find inspiration, but go in store to make sure it fits well and is exactly what you want. Have fun and pretend you’re in a Sex and the City style montage.
• if you want to make a statement with colour or style- go for it! This is one occasion you can really be bold
• keep accessories to a minimum if you’re going for a sparkly number. The Christmas tree look isn’t in this season (or ever…?).
• The weather in Wales, and UK in general, is very changeable, so a shawl or scarf can be draped elegantly over the elbows if it’s nice and wrapped over the shoulders if cold. Also very useful if there’s rain.
• A simple pair of stud earrings and a chain necklace add a classy touch.

Proms are amazing fun and they are the perfect way end a hard school or university year. Here’s a picture of me and my friends from our first summer ball at Cardiff University (I was quite the fan of massive hair back then it seems):

St David’s Fashion Show

How was your weekend? I survived from the crazy wind and went to see the St David’s Fashion Show on Sunday.  Brands such as Mango, Blue Inc, G-Star, LK Bennett are all involved in the show, spicing up the fashion elements in Cardiff.

Here are a few fashion inspirations I find in this show

01-Patterns are still in, such as stripes and grids, and they are great tools for making up or playing with body proportions.

02-Colors! Summer time now, don’t be afraid of trying new colors to spice you up.

A Fashion Breeze from New York

Great sunshine today! This morning, Cardiff has embraced a fashion breeze from New York, yes, all the way to the east coast of the United States.

This is Sarah Hall, president  of SARAH HALL PRODUCTIONS,  looking professional and approachable at Bute Building, being an inspiration for all the people who want to explore the PR industry.

Sarah shared her love for Theory (jump suit)and Martin Mason Margiela (blazer) with Fashion Dragon.

A few tips to look as stunning as Sarah 

01-For girls who want to manipulate body portions, same colored pants and tops will do the job.

02-You can never go wrong with black, but remember to add a little bit fun to your whole look, a nice necklace and a bag with a different color will make you look sharp and chic.

03-Never being intimidated by designer boutique and brands. You can always find inspirations from them. You will also be able to style a similar look like Sara if you go to Mango and Top Shop.

Ready for the Double Denim Look?

Spring has finally arrived, besides adding colors to your closet, how about trying the double denim look? Easy to understand, double denim means wearing two pieces of denim at the same time. You can even do a triple denim look if you are a passionate denim lover.

Style icons like Rihanna, Miranda Kerr, and Zoe Saldana have already been exploring this trend. (see how they wear the double denim look here).

I had my first pair of denim jeans when I was 10 years old. From then on, denim has never disappeared from my closet.  Today I would like to show you how to style a double denim look for the spring.

This the whole look. Here are the details of my outfit.

Shoes (Online shopping from Taobao)–had them for two years

Jeans (G-Star)–had them for 4 years

Denim Jacket (G-Star)–You can always find similar ones from Zara, H&M

Light Green T-shirt (G-Star)–You can find all colors of plain T-shirt at H&M

Bag (Emoi)–My favorite organic brand, will introduce to you guys later

Here are SEVEN tips to achieve this look.

01-For people who are skinny but don’t want to look too skinny, adding layers is always a trick to use.

02-Choose one piece of the item you want to emphasize, than tone down other ones. Here I want to focus on the denim jacket, so I toned down the colors of my shirt and T-shirt. And you can never go wrong with a white shirt:)

03-notice how I rolled up my sleeves? This is to stay coherent with the multiple-layer look around my waist and neck.

04-If you don’t know which pair of jeans to go with. Just look at the colors on the denim jacket. Black, grey, white will all do. But remember to compare with the colors on the denim jacket. We know there are hundreds of different “black”, “white”, and “grey”.

05-I think for a guy, detail is a necessity because we don’t have a wider choice of accessories as women. Adding details means creating a sparkle for your look. Therefore, I think a good timepiece is always necessary. Also, I like rings, so it is always on my fingers.

06-You can always roll up your pants to have something more fun on your ankle. I did not do it because this pair of G-Star jean I was wearing is not a taped fit, and it didn’t look nice when I rolled it up.

07-For shoes, using different colors of laces is the trick I have constantly been using to make my look interesting. Imagine if I am wearing a blue jean, and a blue T-shirt. I might just wearing a pair of grey trainers but using blue and orange laces to make the look less boring (I will show you how to do it in the future, just pray that I can survive from my deadlines, lol).

Three Tips for achieving this look:

1) The jumper and the T-shirt inside can be the same color, or you can use different colors to add a little bit more fun around your neck, such as a navy jumper plus a white T-shirt inside.

2) For achieving a cohesive look, matching belt and the shoe is the key. Even if the color can look different sometimes, it is always better to have the same kind of material.

3) We don’t need to make our collar flat, standing them up can make you look really energentic:)

Rihanna for MAC

RiRi’s MAC Launch!!! 

Watch out Nicki!!! RiRi has signed a new deal with MAC cosmetics which is set to launch in late  2013!

According to pastemagazine.com Rihanna is set to launch an entire collection of cosmetics from lipstick to eye shadow to blush. Four collections will be released in total.

Along with cosmetics her collection will include false eyelashes and a lipstick called RIRI Woo named after MAC’s famous Ruby Woo Lipstick which the starlet says is her favourite.

 In a recent interview RiRi told WWM ”I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved make-up, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”

From her sweet sun kissed complexion to her gorgeous bold lips there is no doubt her iconic look will reflect fabulously in her personal collection.

And watch out everyone I have a feeling we will be capturing many mini RiRi’s around town.

I for one, am absolutely ecstatic about these new collections and will definitely be purchasing many items.
